Could anyone explain how can the same lens used for s9000 and s6000 with actual zoom range 6.2-66.7mm result with equal 35mm equivalent ranges of 28-300mm for these cameras? S9000 has larger sensor 1/1.6" compared to the 1/1.7" sensor in s6000. Basic logic tells that the 35mm equivalent of s6000 should be more at both zoom ends.

Your assumptions are based in the physical world only, don't forget there is software involved here as well. Besides the difference between the sensors is really small and we don't know how Fuji measures the chips. One is a 5th gen chip and one is a 6th gen chip so it is quite possible that the size varies a bit but not the resolution of the chip itself.
I don't know this for a fact but it makes sense. (to me anyways)
