SONY SAL-500F80 - 500mm f/8 Reflex

I know the SONY user crew is not as robust a group, yet, like the Nikon and Canon bunch are, but I wondering is anyone saw fit to purchase the SAL-500F80 - 500mm f/8 Reflex, the ONLY 500mm of it's type to have Autofocus.

Can you imagine ... an f/8 autofocus lens?

Anyway, I was wondering how this baby shot ... and where or not the person who used it compared it against the results they got from a Vivitar T-mount MF 500mm f/8 Reflex. I am sure it probably outclassed it without any problem. Also, can you use a 2x T/C on it, without issue? I know it probably will not AF after that, but can you get a well-focused image manually?

There is a $600 delta, here, in price. But, you get AF ... and Image Stability from the SONY body. Is your resultant image worth the cash?

i just sold of my mirror..just don't have the use for it...i got a doubler for my 70-200..just in case i need the length

Agreed that a 500mm is certainly a class by itself, in my estimation. It does have limited use ... where I used it was at a football field, up in the stands. It allows for some real tight framing ... and a minimum of cropping.

I may try to make more use of it during this summer, concentrating on distant images greater than 100+ ft. Really depends on my work situation (doesn't it always).

May I ask, what did you get for it? or was it a swap? I'm still having difficulty thinking these babies are yankin' down $700. :rolleyes:

Today is Friday, and I was hoping to get some images ... but, we have some hellcious weather coming through the Midwest. Winds in excess of 60 mph. I ask you, who needs that? I don't even want to think about taking images afterwards. :eek:
