I "hope" this is not a dumb question but I just got my Canon SD200 and for the life of me, can't adjust the AWB. I can't even access it ! I read the manual and it simply says to press "function" then use up or down arrows to navigate. I can only change the exposure and picture size. The 3 functions in the middle won't light up. I press up and it's exposure, down and it jumps to picture size. Am I doing something wrong or do you think it's defective? I just literally bought this camera so if it's not user error, I obviously would like to exchange it . Thanks

Make sure that you are switched to record mode (the camera picture), not playback (the arrow in the box). Press the Function Set button in the center of the 4 way controller. You should be able to navigate to WB with the up/down arrows on the 4 way controller.
This is pretty much how most cameras work. If not then maybe the SD200 is different in some way.

Actually, this is my 6th digital camera (3rd canon) but I was wondering if something had changed since my last one...thanks for your quick reply. Looks like it's the camera, and not me :-) as it's in the picture mode but just not responding. Oh well - at least it happened right away which makes for a no-hassle exchange. Thanks again!
Oh, btw, what's up with the flimsy plastic batter/card compartment cover ??? It really feels like it might break off. Might have to hook it up to the computer vis USB cable to minimize opening it. I do LOVE it's awesome , lightning quick multi-shot feature - very, very cool !

You need to be in manual mode, not auto. In auto, you cannot change white balance or ISO. In manual mode you can. I think your camera is working just fine.

As Homer Simpson would say "Dope" ! Thanks David - that explains everything. I think my problem was that in my minolta dimage XT, you can change the WB while in Auto mode. Thanks again!
