it doesnt have the dreamy bokeh of the 85. doesnt have the biting sharpness of some other lens'. but if you want to shoot wide open, this is the lens. it's also the perfect focal length for me. its easily going to be most "most used" lens, i just love it. :)
not without one significant flaw though, the bokeh under some lighting conditions is absolutely diabolical. have to be very careful with this, even though this is a 120% crop to give you a really good idea how bad it is, the effect is highly visible in a full version and imo ruins the shot. the effect can slightly be seen in the first 2 photos.
There's money in trucks, just ask Lindsay Fox. :D
Lindsay who?? :D:D rooz really like that last shot, makes me start to realize I need to upgrade:D:D:D

Lindsay who?? :D:D
Maybe $990 million net worth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindsay_Fox) doesn't rate in your part of the world. :)
hahaha. One day I'll explain it all to ya!!!!:):(
rooz forgot to mention that I do love the last pic too. The first signs of an adult character? he's gonna grow fast mate, pucker up!;)

Rooz, the low point of view on those works great, and I really like the last one, too!

Yep, it's a great lens (shame about the bokeh, but the focal length is too short with f/2 to smooth it out... need f/1.4 or faster to help the bokeh at 35 mm).
There was a thread called The Must Have Lens List last year. The 35/2 was my entry for a Normal Prime.
http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?p=258453#post258453
I'm really not sure on this one, but I suspect Rooz might possibly put the 35/2 on his list too. Just a stab in the dark, you know...
And btw, nice frigging pictures mate!

Great pictures with beautiful colour and contrast. And let's not forget the subject either. You're really making my decision between getting the 35 f/2 or a SB800 a hard one. Do you find it's a better length than the 50 f1.8? I find the 50 is only good for intimate close range portraits.
the 50 is a great compromise between the 35 and the 85 if you only want to have 1 prime. the 85 is best for portraits, the 35 gives you more flexibility. i havent used the 50 since i got my 85 to be honest.
ideally i'd like the a 28 instead of a 30 but from the testing i did the 28 and 24mm nikkors werent good enuf for what i wanted it for, which is large aperture and a close MFD.

I have the 50 and the 85, and I haven't used the 50 much since getting the 85 either. And I feel that the 50 is a little bit long for what I want it for. After seeing your photos in this thread, it shows the kind of length I want.

Rooz, great images.
The 35 is definitly on my whishlist as well. When I shoot at parties, I find that the 50 is often way too long. 35mm would be a lot better in such situations.
By the way, I just looked at your gearlist; did you sell the sigma 18-50 and 150??
By the way, I just looked at your gearlist; did you sell the sigma 18-50 and 150??
yes indeed i did my good sir. :)
i sold the 18-50 because its AF is far too slow and just not precise enuf to catch moving kids. 95% of my commisions are children so this was a pretty easy decision. its also nowhere near sharp enuf wide open as my previous test indicated. i also prefer shooting with primes to be honest. they suit my style alot more, have much better IQ and i kinda like it simple. :)
i sold the 150mm cos i wanted 2 macro options. something lighter and smaller for flowers, the 105VR. and something much, much longer for bugs, the 300mmf4. i've been looking for that 300f4 for a long time now, very happy with the one i got, its absolutely as new and picked it up for a song.
as soon as i find a really good used 12-24 nikkor, i will be selling the 10-20mm aswell. my only issue with the 12-24 is its a dx lens and late next year i want a D3 so...i dunno.
...haha big fella, give ya a race for the 14-24 & the D3.;):D
oh man that 14-24 is sweeeeeeeeet. i dont think that lens will be for me though. have you seen the f'ing size of it ? jeezaloooo. thta protruding front element also scares the crap outta me. thats alot of glass to have hangin in da breeze like that. lol
One rule, one goal, to achieve it is to triumph.
Either that or lets all buy pointnshoots & get turped.:D:D
at least you didnt say anything about protruding front elements hangin in the breeze. ya done good. :D

Only 7:30pm and you guys already started drinking. :D
Yep that protruding front element ruins it for me, because I wouldn't be able to use filters.

Nice and clear shots. Rooz.
However, if the thread is BOYS and TOYS, how come there are no Rooz and his lenses shots? It's somehow misleading if you know what I mean.

Probably because most shots of big boys and their favourite toy aren't suitable for a public forum:D

We have those trucks - becareful. As they get older and more like boys, the wheels come off easy and you'll find yourself in a sword fight against a tire and axel.
Enjoy!

But do you still have a lens hood? These days, the girls like your lenses without the hood. Sleeker. Get it filterized and forget about the hood. ;)

Oh yeah... that's interesting in a different way T06. I'm eyeing the 24-70 F/2.8.
Mate very honest lens, any flaws in your technique are optimized but if you get it right......oooooo;)
