I've had the camera for about a month now but lately the shutter buton has stiffened up, it takes some force to push it down and all too often I miss the 'half press' point. are there any way to loosen it do you know?

Get in touch with the Sony service people without delay,
get the camera fixed, or exchanged while it is still under
warranty. Do NOT try to fix it yourself as you run the risk
of voiding the warranty.
