Hey gang,

Still a novice with digital cameras ... just ordered a F100FD. I got the generic 2GB SD memory card to go with it.

The vendor told me that this type of memory card 1. will result in a lot of processing lag between photos because the F100FD needs a faster card and 2. the photos I take will only be about 70% of the quality of photos taken using other types of memory cards?

Was hoping you guys could either confirm or deny these points? I don't know if they were trying to scam me into buying more stuff or if they actually know what they're talking about?

thanks in advance!

"the generic 2GB SD memory card" doesn't mean a thing. Where/who/what card is it? This (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820183049) is what I use in my F40. A 2GB variant would perform the same or similar. I don't have lag issues beyond the cameras inherent design limitations.

Memory cards cannot result in a loss of image quality. He was wrong with regards to that.

The F100fd will probably benefit from a reasonably fast memory card. I'd go with a 2 or 4 Gig SDHC card rated at Class 4 or Class 6.

Thanks both of you for your replies!

I was skeptical about the image quality problem he was talking about.

In regards to going with a SDHC card over a SD with this camera ... are we talking a HUGE difference with processing speeds? I mean, this guy was telling me it could take 10 seconds for a photo to process before I can take the next one with a SD card???

SDHC Class 4 and 6 are similar to your speed-rated SD cards. I have a PNY 4GB SDHC Class 4 and several Class 6 cards for my digital SLR and they're fine. They'll be fine in the Fuji as well.

Don't listen to anything the salesman told you. He's what we call a shyster. He's intentionally being vague with half or non-truths to up-sell accessories.

Speaking of which, did you actually order the camera from this dealer already? If not, shop elsewhere. If so, cancel the order if you can. It sounds like typical Bait & Switch tactics by a scam website. Sounds like Bestpricephoto or similar. Go to resellerratings.com and enter the store name. Check 'em out.

SDHC isn't by definition any slower or faster then SD, they are different file system formats. There are fast and slow cards of each type.

Buy a Class 4/6 SDHC card or a 60/150x SD card and you'll be fine. If you are shooting single shots, it won't matter. If you are shooting in burst mode or some video modes the camera will stop processing if the memory card is too slow.
