Today I went to Best Buy and purchased the 430EX. Anyway, my BB matches the prices that B&H has. So I got it for $250 instead of $300. Well I payed for it and then the cashier hands me this bag that was tied in a knot. I opened it and realized that they had taken the flash and wrapped it up in a bag and gave it to me!! I'm was really upset about it because I live in Chicago and I have to take public transportation. I didn't want anything happening to it. Well I asked the chick if I could have the box and the manual with it and she said, "Oh thats the last one. It was the one out of the case and we don't have to box or manual anymore." I was like wth!! I really needed the manual. I'm not a genius when it comes to these flashes. She said I could d/l the manual on the site, but I can't take the site with me when I'm out shooting.

Anyway, some people might think I'm upset over nothing, but I seriously needed that manual. Lol. Are these flashes suppose to come with any type of covering or case?? I have to some how find a case for it because I don't like it being exposed.:p

Sorry for my rant. I'm just upset.:(

Oh and to make things worse, I didn't get a warranty card. GRRRR!!

The manuals are pretty useless to be honest. They'll tell you how to change a setting, but they won't tell you why. You CAN however, print the manual if you want to have it with you at all times.

However, you paid for a new unit, not a display unit, so if I were you I'd return it, get my money back, and buy from B&H or Buydig.com (http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=CN430EX), which is $4 less and has free shipping.

The 430EX also comes with a pouch just like the 580EX. If you didn't at least get that, DEFINITELY return it.

You should get 10% (if not more) off a display item instead of a new in box item. The manual can indeed be downloaded and printed (but like cdi said, it's not a class, it's just technical functions, really not that helpful in general). When you bought it, did they pull it un-boxed out of the case instead of getting it from new stock? That would have been the time to say something.

And by the way, when you cover a flash... it doesn't work.

They pulled it from the back room. They only had that flash for about a week. I went last week, I saw it and wanted it. I came back today and it wasnt there, but I asked for it. They had one left and gave me that one. The lady told me it was the one out of the case and it had never been used or handled.

Lol. I know a flash doesn't work if its covered. On the Canon site it says it comes with a soft case. :p

If it was the one out of the case, it was probably (hopefully) tested, even if not particularly used. That's why most good businesses only sell their displays when they won't be getting any more of the product. Constantly replacing the display means you're constantly selling customers (if even slightly) used items. I personally wouldn't have bought it, especially at full price, but not asking for a discount... I would certainly try and return it.

So I just got off the phone with the 1800 number on BB's site. Thank god for 24/7 customer service!!! I talked to them about it and they said that the store I purchased it from was suppose to be getting new ones on Tuesday. The guy told me to just bring it back and exchange it for a new one with the accessories. I asked about the 10% thing, but he said that since they already lowered it to match B&H, I wouldn't get the 10%. Thats if I decided to keep the flash, which I'm not.

I'm still mad that they didn't tell me till after I paid.

That's not Best Buy's fault, that's the idiot sales persons fault. They should have obviously told you that it was not new in the box long before you handed over your money. I've bought many camera things at Best Buy for the only reason that I can get it right now and not have to wait. Otherwise, I don't bother.
