Hi

There is a fairly big difference between these two in terms of cost and what I would like to know is whether the S70 is worth the extra money. My primary interest is getting the best image quality I can and I'm a little confused which one will deliver that. I understand that the S60 and S70 have the same size CCD (although they are different). Seeing as the S60 is 5MP and the S70 7MP would it be true that the S70 would produce more noise and therefore the S60 would be better in terms of image quality? Or is it the case that the CCD used in the S70 is of superior quality? I'm very confused with it all!

Apart from this issue and the colour of the camera bodies I can't see any difference between the two. Are there any other differences I should be aware of ?

I use an S70 but alas have never had an S60 to compare it with. However they both share the same instruction manual so control wise they are essentially the same although not sure if the S60 has .raw facility. A trawl through the DPR reports might clarify things. I tend to use it a lot as it carries better than a mountain of DSLR baggage!

Thanks for your response

As an s70 user, are you happy with it?

Most of the reviews are generally positive but a few things worry me a little such as slow focusing, slow shutter speeds, results in low light seem to be a bit contradicting depending on the review and some have suggested an 'average macro performance'.

Overall would you give it the thumbs up based on your experiences ? I'm getting a little tired of looking to be honest and this does a lot of what I want in a camera

I must admit I'm a landscape and architecture fan and in this I find the S70 copes admirably. I dont do a great deal of macro photography. As regards durability I cant fault it having dragged it round most of the middle east in a rucksack. Battery life is excellent even with the cheap Hahnel batteries.

Ok thanks. I too am looking for a landscape / architecture camera and am drawn to the 28mm. Looks like I might have found 'the one' :D

Ok good luck if you get one. The S70 is a very expensive compact here in the UK it retails for roughly £360 ($650-700)
