Hello everyone. It's been a long time since I've posted here. In fact, it's been a long time since I've even snooped around here. It was interesting to catch up on some old threads/people.

About a week ago, I invested in some studio equipment. Most notable is a Normal monolight and a large octabox. Here are a few pictures from this Sunday, my first official shoot that wasn't a workshop/class.

Natasha: This was lit by a single Octabox

Sammantha: Lit by the Octabox + 580 EX II + SB-800

As it turns out, we (a friend and I) used the same setup the entire day. A 5' Octabox as main lighting, a Canon 580 EX II w/ 32" umbrella as fill, and an SB-800 w/ 32" umbrella as accent/hair light. But, we were shooting a little too furiously for the hot shoe flashes to keep up!! So, many of the shots were without a fill and/or accent lighting. I guess you live and learn, right? :)

The Norman head was a workhorse, and didn't have a single misfire, nor an unpowered shot the entire 5 hours we were shooting.

I'm a little concerned about using the hot shoe strobes now, realizing it takes them quite a bit to recharge (4-5 seconds?)...and since they are not cooled in any way, they get REAL warm...We think the 580 EX II actually turned itself off twice (possibly due to heat).

So, I am considering investing in another monolight or two (probably alienbee to keep it cheap!!).

If you want to see more shots, I am putting them up on my flickr site (http://www.flickr.com/swgod98/) as I process them...

Thanks!

Thanks guys. It was pretty fun working with these girls. Both of them were really cool. That made it easy for me to concentrate on all the mistakes I was making in framing, lighting (I had one of the lights on the wrong PW channel for half the shoot!!!), etc

I've got another shoot coming up on the 20th, so I'm pretty excited.
