Probably picking one of these up for my birthday, was wondering if anyone had one and has played around with it?

Actually, Haidden-

Here in Oregon they are indeed very scarce. In all honesty, the photos that I have seen posted on the internet from the S-100fs have not knocked my socks off at all. I truly believe that we are in a wait and see situation.

When we have our first couple of professional reviews, we will know a good deal more.

So far I have seen only one site with any sample images at all:

Was wondering if anyone has purchased one yet and has a review for it?

I found it for 679 at a place i do all my ordering for (comp parts etc) and was wondering if anyone has used it yet before I made the buy.

Thanks.

The recently posted sample pictures on this site show that the camera lens probably have a noteable purple fringing problem. Pity, if it's really the case, I was aiming at s100fs too. Well, let's see the results from the final review.

Can it shoot in RAW? If so, you can reduce the abberations quite a bit in post.

All Fuji cameras have purple fringing. I'm not not sure if S100fs is worse? One quick fix is to shoot and -0.3 EV.

The review is finally out there at http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilms100fs/. Unfortunately the image quality is a problem due to the purple fringing (chromatic aberration). Damn! Why Fuji, why? :(

Agreed, for the price point Fuji's just asking too much. If this were a sub$400 cam it would be high on my list but you can get an entry level dslr for just a bit more and not have to deal with these issues. oh well, maybe the next gen will address this issue. Almost there Fuji!

All pictures are taken with the Fuji S100FS, at a local zoo in Belgium, jpg's from the camera, nothing done with it, sometimes adjusted the WB, that's all.

You'll see fringing in certain images with certain lenses with a dSLR as well. Trust me. ;) If you do go with an entry dSLR, you aren't gonna get much in the way of optics at this price point. Forget about 400mm. :D

Expecting no fringing is just asking too much.

I agree and I can live with a bit of fringing but from the shots I've seen it seems excessive for a camera that is on the high end of the bridge camera spectrum. Certainly it's more than I get on my S6k which is < half the price.
Plus, the other advantages such as the sensor size, ability to change lenses, and other features makes it too easy to take that extra step and just go dslr. (for me anyway)

That being said, I think I would be much more interested in the s100fs if I didn't already own the S6000fd, which is a great camera in it's own right. I keep looking at dslr packages and reviews and have been for months now and still haven't bought anything since my current cam keeps me learning and interested. Someday though I will take that step.

I agree & have my own extremes. I either want the IQ of a dSLR and am willing to tolerate the costs and inconveniences, or I don't give a hoo-hah and just use my very pocketable, very automatic P&S.

Isn't it possible for the camera to remove purple fringing to a degree during in camera processing before a jpeg is produced?I thought that was what Panasonic did, certainly there is little fringing with my FZ50 ,though of course noise is another issue.

If Panasonic can do it,why can't Fuji?

Well my thing is, My limit is about 800 Max, with DSLR, theres so many lenses etc that its gets really pricey fast. I like the zoom on the s100 and the pictures seem really good on them, I am really not shooting for professionalism and so far the pictures I have seen does not have bad purple fringing (or maybe I just don't have the eye for it) at all.

I will probably just end up getting one of these in the next couple weeks or so and be done. I don't think im ready to take the leap into DSLR yet, seems like ALOT.

I bought it for just £391 -- and then spend time to see all features, seem nice - I used Kingston 4GB SDHC card and Fuji black leather case. the model with FS mean its film simulation mode version. I have to make more picture to see if it good shot,etc.. Im just started as I got it few days ago

Fuji, if you could release a minor upgrade to the s100fs with less purple fringing and double the pixels on LCD and EVF before Xmas this year, the camera would be a definite "buy!". For me at least :)

Is your case the Fujifilm SC-FXS100? If yes, can you explain what kind of closure it has. Does the top piece that flaps over have Velcro, a zipper or one of those plastic buckles with the two pieces that clip together? I don't care for the buckles.

Hi, have been using a Canon FTb for the past 30 years and am making the jump to digital. Have done the homework and read the reviews. My choice is the Nikon D80 or the Fuji S100FS. I saw the pixs posted in the forum, thanks for posting them Francis. I like the Fuji because of the one lens fits all, in my case and the fold out LCD. The film modes are ok but you can do the same thing in photoshop right? I do landscapes, macro, nature and general stuff.
Highspeed shooting, sports is not a factor. Not having to change lenses is nice, but for better quality I can live with it. Don't like the purple fringing.
My question is this.. how important is the Image Stabilizer in digital photography? I've noticed not all cameras offer it. Fuji does in the S100FS
and Nikon offers a VR in their more pricey lenses @ 1wayphoto.com. Does this feature make it a " must have" ? My digital experience is limited. I have been using a Fuji S8100 for a couple of days. It seems like a toy!
Any help is appreciated.
