I just bought a new Canon PowerShot A85 and im planning to buy a higher CF CARD like 128MB, or 512MB or 1G of memory.. my problem is that whats the differerence between KODAK, ULTRA, SANDISK, AND LEXAR? r they all the same?
in speed? resolution? and which CF CARD least to break down?? :(

no they are not the same in speed. write speed should be lisred on the card or packaging. Of course the faster it is the more $$ usually. I have had good results with lexar. Most should be pretty reliable, but I would stay away from the bargan basement noname manufacturers. Make sure there is a warranty and you are comforatable with the terms.

The brand makes no difference. The speed makes no differnce to the A85, BUT it does make a dfference if you are using a USB2.0HS (High Speed) card reader and your computer has USB2.0HS ports. In that case photos will download much faster with a 40X, 60X, 80X, Ultra II, Ultra II, Extreme, etc.

For smaller cards like 128 it probably doesn't make much difference, but as you put more pictues on the card, the download time gets longer, so at 512MB you might want to think about a 20X to 60X (UltraII) type card. If an extra 2 or 3 minutes, for a full memory card, is not a big deal then it doesn't matter. I have a D70 and use all kinds of different Compact Flash cards. I only use high speed for sporting events or shooting lightning strikes. Your A85 is not this fast, so don't worry about it.

Hope this helps.

what is your method for capturing lightning? you have it hooked up to a sensor/trigger or somthing? what's your position - high up on hill, indoors, outdoors? how about your background - all sky, flat ground, city, the neighborhood? i'm interesting in getting at least one lightning shot; so far i've gotten a rainbow, and on a seperate occassion a strange, good-sized oval in the sky with distinctive rainbow banding, but no lighting.
