MANFROTTO 488RC2 MIDI BALL HEAD

Well, I know that the RC2 on the end specifies a model of Manfrotto Quick Release platform. All Manfrotto heads ending in RC2 share the same QR system so they accept the same camera mounting plate. Since Manfrotto has multiple QR systems I would guess that RC0 is yet another mount.

488RC0 (http://www.manfrotto.com/Jahia/site/manfrotto/cache/bypass/pid/2307?livid=80|81&lsf=81&child=2)
488RC2 (http://www.manfrotto.com/Jahia/site/manfrotto/cache/bypass/pid/2306?livid=null&lsf=null&child=null) Same as the 488 but equipped with a quick release 200PL camera plate system with a secondary safety catch (whatever it means :) )

It is indeed. I have the above mentioned & at the time I didn't think it was such a big thing but now think it is very worth while having.

The secondary safety catch is a nice little feature. After you throw the locking lever to trap the camera mounting plate in the head there is a small brass lever that prevents the main plate lever from releasing. To release your camera you must first throw the very small and somewhat protected brass lock before the main lever will move. This is very nice if you carry your camera mounted to the head. Traveling through brush that can snag the main lever.
