I have been using my Nikon Coolscan LS30 for about 4 years without any
problems but now when I try to start it in Photoshop I get an error message-
'the stage locking screw is still in place, please remove it.'

The locking screws ( for transportation ) were removed when I first had the scanner and have never been replaced.
Has anyone ever experienced this problem, and is there
a cure ?

Hi, it could be some dust on a sensor, or the sensor for the screw could have givenup. Is it a slide switch or physical screw that you are talking about, if its a physical screw and you a vacumn cleaner attachment uitable for use with a PC you could try running it over the holes for the screws.

Hope this helps,

Keith

Hi Keith,
Thanks for your reply to my problem with the LS30, it sounds logical to me. The screw that the error message referred to is one of 2 which
are used when transporting the scanner, I will try your idea but it may be irrelevant now as the error message has changed to - 'NikonScan was unable to find any active devices.' followed by - 'Could not open the TWAIN source. Make sure there is a valid source for your scanner in the TWAIN directory found in the Windows directory.'

Have you experienced these messages or do you know of a cure ?

In Windows:
Open device manager. Find the scanner. Delete it. Delete the device totally. Then reboot and allow windows to relocate the driver or reinstall from disk.

Was this resolved? what was the fix?

I'm receiving the same error after the bright tech's at nikon's support returned a scanner to me two times with a locking screw inside the scanner.

Oh my goodness. My suggestion ... get a new scanner. Really.
