Well I got my new computer, it's awesome. But I'm having a couple of problems, one of them is some trouble with internet downloads. The other one is that pictures on the Web often don't display correctly. Here's an example: (sorry BLWNHR (http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38093). For some reason your post was the worst one?)

It's always the bottom part of the picture that is affected. Often it's the part of the page that needs to be scrolled down to. I've tried IE, Firefox, and Opera. They all do it. Sometimes refreshing the page fixes it, but not usually. I have Vista Home Premium 64-bit. What should I do?
Was it like this from day one or did it suddeny start happening?

I think it was okay yesterday morning (the first day we had it) but I noticed it last night.

I use both XP Professional SP2 32-bit and Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit and they both work fine. Not really sure why you would dread Vista, everything I have works and that's in 64-bit.
toriaj, can't say I've ever seen that before...do you have an Nvidia or ATI graphics card? One thing you might try is going to www.ati.com or www.nvidia.com and downloading the latest graphics driver. Uninstall yours first, reboot, then install the new driver, and reboot again. If it's an Intel integrated (IGP/GMA) chip then www.intel.com will have it.

I know people that are happy with it, they don't do anything but basic stuff. It hogs to many resources. There are also problems with drivers not being supported.
There are a couple companies giving the choice of Xp or Vista. Dell is one, I don't remember the others.
I don't want Vista either, its the new windows.

I have the NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT. But pictures display just fine in every program except on the internet (Nikon Capture NX, PSP, Windows Explorer, etc. are all fine.) It's only on the internet that they get messed up. Wouldn't any graphics card problems be equally applied in all applications? Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

You never really know with these things.
I would download this:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_169.25_whql.html
Uninstall your current display driver from Control Panel -> Programs and Features, then reboot. When you're back in, run the installer for the new driver.
I'm surprised your system came with Home Premium 64-bit...I thought OEM operating systems were all 32-bit and you had to install 64-bit yourself if you wanted? That has been my experience.

My computer was custom-built by one of my relatives :) He knows what he's doing, but hadn't used Vista before. I'm sure we'll get it sorted out. Thanks for the tip about the driver, I'll give that a try.

This computer, AMD X2 5000+. runs XP Pro and of course, it runs like a dream. But I have an HP Slimline with an Athlon 2.2 gig, 1 gig of RAM and Vista Home Premium that I use in the den. It's a little slow, but I'm comparing it to a pretty hot desktop with a 2.6 gig dual core, 2 gigs RAM and a 256 MB video card. No problems with it and I use it for mostly music stuff.
I also have an ACER 5610Z laptop with an Intel dual core and 1 gig and Vista Home Premium. With a 14.4 V, 4800 mAh battery, WiFi on and surfing or light graphics I get 3 1/2 hours battery and rarely have any issues.
SO!!! I like Vista. But I'll keep XP on my main desktop for now because the only Vista version I have available to install on this Systemax rig is Vista Business. Ultimate or Home Premium I maight go for it, but I have 2 more years left on an inhome service contract and don't want to mess with it much. Any future computers I get will definitely be Vista.

Glasstream15, I'd consider using Vista on the 2GB machine and XP Pro on the 1Gb machine ;)

Possible, but my 2 gig Systemax came with XP and the 1 gig HP came with Vista. I do have Vista Business DVD that I can install on the big desktop, but it's running too sweet to play with now. I am going to bump the laptop up to 2 gigs though. May even up the Slimline, but it does what I want it for quite well as it is.

Haha, I opened this thread and was like, 'Hey, they're my photos...kinda'. Sorry Tori, I can't help I'm sorry. Vista is picky with security settings for the internet I've found, could be a problem there?

I have it on my Dell laptop. I'm happy with it. Moreso now SP1 is out. I use it for photos, CAD, games, word processing, internet. Never a problem.

Thanks BLWNHR, I think it might have been security settings. One of the things I tried the night before it started working was uninstall AVG and disable Windows Firewall. I restarted, no luck, still messed up. But when I turned it on the next morning, viola, everything worked. Photos and downloads. I don't get it, but I'm not complaining!!!
(great shots by the way, I'm glad I can see them properly now :D)
