AF-S motor noise?

What do yours sound like? Mine isn't too loud, but the best way I can describe it is a squealing sound.

My AF-S lenses sound more like a swoosh focusing. The VR has more of a squeal sound to it but I would describe it more like a hum. I seem to remember that one of the VR lenses I tried (70-300mm i think) had more of a squeal sound to it though.

That doesn't sound right. A "swoosh" (and a "hum" from the VR... with an occasional soft "thud") are what I hear. If your AF motor is squealing, I'm wondering if it might need service.

I'd hope a brand new lens doesn't need service...

The VR in my 55-200 lens makes a high pitch noise. And like the other guys my AF-S lenses make a swoosh sound.
