So...Sigma strikes again, a 50mm/f1.4 prime with a HSM(yay!) motor.

If the price and quality is right this lens just jumped to the top of my list.

EDIT: Just noticed that there is a thread on the subject, oh well... :)

One thing that should be noted is there is no indication of this lens on the Sigma Corporation of America website. That leads to the question, "Will it be available for U.S. distribution?" Of course, that issue is only important to the U.S. readers. I believe it's more a question of when than if, but just the same...

Finally? The 30/1.4 HSM has been around for awhile ;)

Let's guess the MSRP.

I bet that they will price it at the $330 price of the Nikkor non AF-S 50/1.4, with street price coming somewhere around $275 from jumpstreet.

Anyone else want to hazard a guess?

Im hoping for the price to bee around 200euro's, all tho it will probably bearound 300+.

If its around 200 im getting it instantly, if not i might just settle with the old 50mm/f1.8 and manual focus as my budget is kinda tight atm.

There's a lot of interest for this lens in the nikon camp, i hope it delivers.

Oh, okay, there is a D40 fuss being made.:p

It'd be interesting to see Sigma's 50mm f/1.4 being any less costly than their $400 30mm f/1.4. Seems like they might have to lower the price on the latter if they decide to price the former to compete with Nikon's non-AF-S lens.

On the Sigma world site they call it perfect for digital. I hope they don't mean APS-C digital. That would be really stupid.

This is what it says on the dpreview site "Sigma's DG designation means it will also work as a standard lens on full-frame digital cameras." so it will work on both.

Well, it would be silly for them to make it crop sensor only. Have you seen the size of Nikon's 50/1.4? Its rather small, and the optics are maybe 1" in diameter max. It probably doesn't cost more than $2 extra (manufacturing costs) for them to make it full frame compatible.
