I'm wanting to buy an ultra compact digital camera, with optical zoom, good LCD (preferably 2"), a Lithium battery, and no redeye. Any suggestions for other features to look for?
So far, the Canon SD300 is looking really tempting.
Any suggestions or help will be appreciated :) e

I'm wanting to buy an ultra compact digital camera.... and no redeye.

Some cameras are better than others when it comes to redeye, but an ultra compact with *no* redeye? No such thing.....

Better to deal with redeye with image software (which you need anyway and can be found for free), rather than making it a condition for camera selection.

The SD300 would be a good choice, but I'm holding out for the Ricoh Caplio R1.

PhilR, Thanks for your response and advice. I'm not familiar with the camera you mentioned. When will it be released, and do you think it will be much better than the SD300?
Thanks again for your help :) e

Better for my needs, but not sure about yours. Take a look at this site

Phil - You have aroused my curiosity about the Ricoh cameras (someone else in another forum also raved about it ) Brieflly, what's the difference between the 2 models - Ricoh Caplio RZ1 sounds like the one closest to SD300, right? Thanks

Thanks to both of you for your responses.
I read the reviews on DPReview, but was unable to find the Ricoh models on page where you can compare cameras. Do either of you know another website where this can be done? Thanks, e :)

These are new, so you know as much about them as I do. From what little I've been able to find, it seems that the RZ1 would indeed be the closest to the SD300. However, the R1 looks to be the better one to get. Once they become widely available, I may have to sell my wife's camera and get her one.
