But can you ride them? ;) I was at one of the local Harley dealers yesterday. Sort of interested in a VRSCDX Night Rod Special. I figure that I may enjoy that more than a Nikon D3. :D Then about a year later if Nikon releases a new camera body that uses a CFast card....

But at least Harleys have classic good looks. That looks like it came out of a Saturday morning Transformers cartoon. Sorry, but that's my opinion. And yes, I understand that it will outperform the Harley seven ways to Sunday. Doesn't change what it looks like.

What do you think of this model? Oh well, the link doesn't go directly to the VRSCDX Night Rod Special--I just figure that as expensive as fuel is getting that it may be nice just to hop on a H-D and take the camera along for a spin (especially if I move and get a bump in pay).

I assume that it spends it's life towing the lawnmower on the right. Can't think of any other use for it. :D:D

Well, no modern Harley can do this:

And because of that, they are overpriced crap in my mind.

And no, I did not take the above photos (mine are much better). The photos above are of ME on the track for once. Finally in front of the camera.

I should probably admit, I don't have a use for any of them. Guys who drive on the street like that last photo eventually end up as grease spots on some road or as hood ornaments on SUVs.

I don't have a problem with motorcycles driven responsibly, but the people that drive them have to understand, they show up unexpected, and they are hard to see to begin with. They are very fragile. Drive defensively.

As for that one Harley, that's just marketing. They're trying to attract the younger crowd. Eventually they will have to, as all the older bikers die off (of natural causes).

Well, the photos I posted were taken at a track. I never ride that agressively on the street, though some idiots do. Those are the guys who give sportbikes a bad name.

Of course, I do not know of a single sportbike group that gets on their bikes, and goes bar hopping like many Harley riders do. Of course you don't hear about those guys on the news...

I understand. I have nothing against guys who drive responsibly. I do occasionally see young guys who are not likely to become old guys. They're also the ones that use the lane splitting laws like it's some sort of full time God given right. Darwin eventually claims most of them.

Mind you, I see as many (by percentage) car drivers who should not be allowed. Unfortutely, they are more protected from Darwin by all those safety devices and a buffer of steel.

I flew jets for the Air Force. I know all about going fast and taking it to the edge. But there's a time when you do that (like the track) and a time when you don't. To many young people never get a chance to understand the difference. There's an old pilot's saying: "There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are not old, bold pilots".

So based on your post, it seems like you "separate" out a few guys on sportbikes that may give the majority a bad name, yet tend to "lump" Harley riders as a whole into a general category at the expense of the "many" so you claim. Wow. I guess Honda riders are excluded, so I should get a Honda for 200 mile road trips. What about those with the "need for speed" who ride sport bikes in and out of city traffic and I don't mean "acceleration".

Locally, motorcycle "gangs" have made the news, especially during the large "bikefests". However, those are gangs which also tend to get a bad rep from other things, i.e. violence, drugs. etc. Myself, I don't even drink alcohol and would NOT think that someone would mistakenly lump myself into such a counterculture simply if I owned a H-D. Of course, I can't prevent stereotypes. I do sort of wonder what someone like Jay Leno, the Governor of California, or the doctor down the street would think about such a general comment based on their simple owning of a H-D alone... Ban all H-D's as a result? LOL. What about those who own both a "sport" bike and a H-D.

Ironically, I hear and read a variation of the same thing on camera forums, i.e. Canon v. Nikon. LOL.

Of course, I've seen lane-spliting by both those on sport bikes and H-Ds. One difference is that I tend to see certain riders darting in and out of traffic more often. Usually, those riders are not riding H-Ds or large touring bikes, but sport bikes.

Well, there are bad apples in both camps. The problem is that you hear about the bad apples in the sportbike scene much more than you hear about in the cruiser scene. I certainly don't lump all Harley riders into the camp of "drunken motorcycle bar hopping". I have met some very cool people through the motorcycle scene. Whether they be Harley riders, or Victory Motorcycle riders, to Goldwing riders, Cafe bike riders, or Track riders they all a very down to earth bunch.

So bad apples aside, I am looking forward to spring and getting back on the bikes. I probably wont be able to afford ($$$) to do the above riding this year, but I still enjoy going out to the track and take photos, which I will no doubt be posting on here for critique. So look for that in the upcoming months.
