I am going to a concert in 3 short weeks (indoor) and we just got this camera.

I will be on the floor in one of the first 15 rows. DOnt know exactly until I pick up at the venue from the fan club.

Anyhow.. anyone know what settings are best for a concert?

THANKS SO MUCH!

Unfortunately, there's not much point in asking about "settings" as there aren't really any! The DSC-W55 is a purely point and shoot camera — that is, the camera adjusts its image-capturing parameters automatically, or, depending on the "scene" mode you've chosen on the dial.

You'll probably be looking at a pretty high ISO, but remember if you choose HIGH ISO (on the mode dial), the camera could push it up to ISO 1000 which can introduce a lot of image noise. As well, for a concert, you're gonna be fairly limited with a 3x zoom unless you're in the first few rows. You could buy the Sony "super" telephoto lens VCL-DH2630, plus the Sony conversion lens adapter VAD-WB, which together will set you back around $120.

And don't even think of using the flash, as at typical stage-to-audience distances, all flashes are useless — plus it might get you thrown out of the venue!

To be honest, the DSC-W55 is probably one of the last cameras I'd be using at a concert (sorry) but I guess if you use it to the limits of its capabilities you'll come away with some nice pics — just take lots and lots of 'em — so that you can discard the flops.

Hope this gives you some food for thought.

Cheers :)
