I've been trolling for a little while and read many of the suggestions. I'm moving from a Nikon Coolpix to a DSLR. I think I've narrowed it down to the Canon XTi or the XSi. My question is, should I go with the XSi when it comes out and get a better lens down the line or should I wait for a price drop in the XTi and use the difference to get a really nice lens. Nikon D40/60/80 is a possibility as well.

Under $1000

Doesn't matter

How many megapixels will suffice for you?
I think I want at least 10.

Mainly for family photos, but also landscape (e.g., Kauai :))
* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
Yes.
Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
Yes
Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
Maybe some.
Miscellaneous
Are there particular brands you like or hate?
No, but it seems like Canon has a big line of lenses which is appealing.
Are there particular models you already have in mind?
See above.
(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
I'd like wide angle, stabilization and telefoto.
