So I am thinking about pulling the trigger on a battery grip for my D300. One of the options is to use a big battery out of the larger D3. This battery would definately be awesome. Lots of power, giving me the ability to shoot for extended periods of time. This is crucial because the D300 is kinda a power hog.

The nikon battery is all kinds of expensive. However Adorama has their brand that is a fraction of the cost. Its extremely tempting.

Has anyone had any experience with the Adorama brand? Any idea what actual brand it is? Any experience with aftermarket batteries?

You can use rechargeable AA batteries in the grip as well. They will give you the extra juice, and 8 fps. The camera can get a bit heavy with all those batteries in it, but you get used to it pretty quickly.

Just remember that if you do end up buying whatever battery you end up getting, you will need the appropriate charger for it, and you will need the BL-3 battery holder (another $35, and currently back-ordered pretty much everywhere).

So all the options are rather pricey, except for the rechargeable AA route. Thats how I'm currently running, and other than needing another set of batteries to have for my flash, Ive been very happy running this setup.

I use http://www.sterlingtek.com when looking for spares. They offer excellent service and products at great prices. All the batteries that I have purchased from them in the past have capacities far above the OEM battery at a fraction of the cost.
