card reader-->burn cd system ???

a friend advised me that there were several units available that will take a memory card/stick, read the info/photos stored on them, and burn them to a CD disc for storage and future use. I am taking an extended trip west this summer and this sounded like good alternative to me to buying a new laptop just to store photos for future organization and editing. The goal would be to take a days worth/ weekends worth of shots, download them via this device to a CD, identify it for future use, and be able to keep the trip photos stored neatly and safely in some order. Any experience with this? Appreciate your comments.

I do not personally have any experience with the device you speak of, however I know that Circuit City carries them, and I have seen them at the local Circuit City in my area. It might help if you go down and take a look at it (If you have a CC nearby) From what I understand (and have seen) those devices are as simple as plugging your card in and pressing a button. They usually even have their own battery power, so you could transfer the pics right on the field. Hope this helps
