Hi Folks,
I recently purchased the FZ20 (Wow!) and added a Raynox DCR-6600 Pro .66 wide angle lens via the Raynox RT5264P lens adaptor. As a public service to you I am posting this to let you know that vignettting is a serious problem with this combination. The Raynox site suggests that "vignetting may occur" but that is an understatement! It would be more accurate to say that vignetting will occur and there is nothing you can do to stop it. See attached picture for an example. By the time you crop out the bad part of the image you might as well not even bother with the wide angle add-on.
On a side note concerning the RT5264P adaptor - it works as advertized but if you look at the corners of your pictures with a critical eye you will find that even without an add-on lens attached there is a visible amount of dark ghosting in the fringe corners of the picture. Not a serious problem but symptomatic of something not seen with other brands/types of adaptors I've read about here.
I'll be looking into some of the other adaptor/lens suggestions from this forum for my next adventure into add-on lens land. Until then...
Regards,

That's surprising. with the same set up, i got this result. I only see vignetting at the bottom right.

Were you in macro mode maybe?

If you have a filter on either end ..remove it.

You get that darkening under special circumstances with all adapters even without an adapter

I use the Raynox dcr720 with the raynox adapter with no vignetting, I do not like the lens but there is no vignetting
Regards,
Raynox recommends the HD7000 but I have not tried it as I want to use a polarizing filter and its expensive to try the combo and then not like the result.

I just got back from vacation and tried must about everything I could think of to reduce the vignetting seen in the posted shot. Didn't matter. Zoom - no zoom, f2.8 - f8.0, macro - no macro, lens filter - no lens filter, etc. Actually, zooming in 2x did help to reduce the amount of vignetting seen but zooming in by 2x pretty much eliminated the benefit of have a wide angle adaptor.
Your results are better. You weren't by any chance zooming in a bit on those shots were you?
Oh well... Telle est la vie.

What is it about the DCR 720 that you don't like (besides the excessive barrel distortion)?

Hello there guys...I have the FZ20 and use the Raynox RT5264P adaptor, along with the Raynox linear polarizer and UV filter...I have not seen any signs of vignetting or dark corners at all. I leave the UV filter on more as a lens protector and I have no problems...in fact all the photos i post in these sites are all taken with these on (the polarizer comes off in low light settings and indoors). Take a look at a thread i started called "Polarizer and Non-polarizer shots" and you will see no problems at all. Am I missing something ??

As I said, vignetting only happens with the Raynox RT5264P adaptor on rare occassions. I just uploaded a picture to my Webshots gallery of a lighthouse I shot on vacation last week. Titled "Umpqua River Lighthouse" on page two of the gallery. If you look in the upper left corner of the picture you will see a small amount of blue darkening. That is a direct result of having the adaptor mounted on the front of the camera along with the Raynox MC lens filter. I suspect it only happens when a bright light source, in this case the sun, is at an oblique angle to lens of the camera and what you are seeing is a reflection off of the inside of the aluminium housing.

All of the other pictures in that gallery were shot with the Raynox RT5264P adaptor and MC filter installed and you can see no vignetting in those pictures.

If you measure the results of a picture with it you will see it is infact a .08 wide angle not a .07 I talked to Raynox about it and the gave me some type of formula that indeed makes it a .072 lens, but when 2 pictures are taken one with it and one with a WCon08, the 08 is a wider view. And the Wcon07 is much wider.

I was not zooming at all, but I did not have any filter installed either. To be honest, I shot some more, and what is puzzling me is that depending on pictures, with the exact same settings, sometimes I get more vignetting than others. I made sure that I was not zooming either.
The inconsistency in vignetting is weird, or maybe I need to get more sleep??

I am happy to report that much of the vignetting I was getting has been cured. It turns out the 6600 had a small burr on the mounting thread that was preventing it from seating correctly on the adaptor. The vignetting is now more like the small amount that you are experiencing. Now I need to get out and shoot some more to see what it can really do....
As far as your variable vignetting problem I have no clue as I haven't had time to really check mine out since the thread problem was repaired.

This is my first evidence of any vignetting using my raynox 52mm adaptor. I have never seen it before and its not because I didn't take tons of photos, because I did...but I see it here so vividly. I am posting it for your info only.

i also wanna buy this dcr6000, but when i read on raynox website :
http://raynox.co.jp/english/digital/fz10/index.htm
DCR-6600PRO Pro-Wideangle lens 0.66X
The lens creates super wide angle view of f=23mm (35mm film equiv.), DCR-6600Pro lens controls the image distortion percentage at the least, less than -1.3%.
Vignetting(Darkening one or more corners) may appear as shown on the actual image.
Magnification : Nominal 0.66X
Actual 0.66X/Diagonal, 0.66X/Horizontal
Lens construction : 3G/3E Optical coated glass elements
Mounting threads : 52mm
Front filter size : 72mm
Size/Weight: : 77 x 40mm/178g
RT5264P lens holder is Not Included.
Specifications
i cancelled my intention on buying it, and planning to buy the dcr5000 instead... because the dcr5000 doesn't have any vignetting effect....
regarding the raynox polarizer filter, i'm using the PLP-P20, a polarizer filter packaged with an MC protector...
according the raynox website like above the configuration should be like this :
fz20 -> rt5264P -> polarizer filter -> mc protector
by using this combination, i experience some vigneting effect... and so i change the combination to :
fz20 -> rt5264P -> mc protector -> polarizer filter
and the vignetting effect is gone... i don't know what caused this... but at least the vignetting problem is solved :D

Those 52mm DCR-6600 pics look nice and clear with low barrel distortion but that vignetting is bad
Would a larger lens vignette too?
Like the 58m HD-6600 PRO

The Fz20 is my first good camera, I love it and i need a good wide angle converter for interior shots, my father is a painting contractor. I hope .66x is enough. Someone mentioned that the .72x is really .8 is the .66 really .66?
I noticed that the HD7000 is almost twice as heavy as the hd6600 but can be used throughout the enire zoom range, which is pointless for a still camera.
