View Full Version : canon xsi or nikon d300 for first camera?

i'm in the market for my first dslr camera and i'm looking to get serious into the hobby so should i get a canon xsi or nikon d300 i know it's two completely different cameras in in two different price range. . but like i said i'm a newbie but looking for a camera i can use for years to come. . i do not own anything from canon or nikon nor have much experience with either cameras. . . any advice or comments would be great thanks

you need to be alot more specific in what you want to use it for and what your budget is. its like saying you're looking at a toyota camry and a porsche 911 for your first car. there's just too much disparity between the 2 cameras to be able to provide any meaningful comparison.

Both Canon and Nikon are here to stay. Your camera will only be produced and sold for 18 months at best so it'll be out-dated pretty quickly.

That is utter crap.

there are still people happily using 300D, 10D, D70s etc

camera's don't go out of date, they just keep adding features to make it more appealing and "fresh"

"smile detection" and "live view" and all that.

and you gotta be more specific, I'd recommend the XSI as you are an amateur and probably don't need the extra jazz that the D300 brings

Agreed that it's better bang for the buck.

And, no, your camera will not become obsolete in 18 months.
