So a week today I'm off Bulgaria on holiday. Woohoo.
Anyway, I'm taking my camera, of course, and wondered if there is any specific things to do when travelling with it? I.e would it get damaged going through an x-ray machine etc?
thanks
Take your camera gear as hand luggage. It will survive x-rays.

Agreed. I travel loads and have never had a problem. Take your gear on the plane as carry-on and store it above you. My biggest worries while travelling aren't on the airplane but I get more worried about having my stuff stolen while travelling around (I'm usually backpacking though). Just be smart with your stuff, don't use a bag that screams, "expensive gear" and buy travel insurance just in case. Can't wait to see your shots. Oh ya, and have a great trip.

If you can put it as hand luggage under your seat (ie the one in front). Sure it buggers up your foot room but I've seen some pretty rough handling as people put luggage in the racks above. Also on long flights if you fall asleep it's sort of looked after automatically by feet.
I or my co-workers have had non hand luggage go missing more times than I can point a stick at - don't be tempted.
I look forward to seeing the photos, have a great trip.

yeah, I was planning on having it as hand luggage, never know what snaps I could get :P
I was just wary if the x-ray would damage it at all?

I've been air traveling with a digital camera since 2000. No problems with the x-ray machine.

Good info here. On every flight, there's an idiot who tries to smash his large suitcase into the overhead bin. You don't want your camera anywhere near this guy.

Good advice here I just took my camera on a business trip & it was fine. I kept it out of the overhead bins & round my neck or on my shoulder all the time. Shot this out of the window when I was allowed. Shame about the dirty glass though.

The last time I was on a plane with my camera bag I asked my aunt to put one of my camera bags under the seat in front of her because I was using the space I was given. Instead of placing it on the ground she did the old hang it by the strap and let it fall the last foot to the floor.... at that point I said "it's okay I'll take it back thanks...." ;) Apparently that was rude?!?

Nice shot.
Here's one reason to keep it accessible. Photo isn't mine fortunately, just a net circulator.

Wow I really would start to get concerned if that was the view out of the window.
