Folks:

Looking for in put on a good point and shoot camera.

I would like to spend $250 or less on a camera, although I am willing to spend more (I guess I am saying price is not the determining factor, but I'm not going to spend $500).

I have taken up running as a hobby. I want an ultracompact that is small enough to put in a water belt (has a pouch on it). So, the smaller (thinner) the better. I plan on taking the camera with me on long runs and marathons that I race to "capture the moment" (pain, etc.).

Standard optical zoom is fine. I can't think of why I would need more than 6 MP (I currently have a Nikon D50 Digital SLR, and certainly do not need the resolution of that camera for my purposes). However, image quality, and especially color balance is important. I would put them at an 8 out of 10.

I don't need a bunch of fancy features - just basic point and shoot, perhaps a portait/landscape mode, and the ability to turn the flash off of necessary (many times we start on cloudy/foggy mornings).

I appreciate any input. Thanks!

About as thin as you can get (0.6"). Plus it meets your $250.00 price point.

Thanks for the input.

I read that these cameras are pretty slow though. Do you have experience with one?

You can also try the Canon SD1000 or the new SD1100. If you want IS try the SD850.

Thanks for the input.

I read that these cameras are pretty slow though. Do you have experience with one?No. I like the Canon SD line myself...but they're not as thin. But, the Canons that David mentioned are top notch cameras.

Sony's are typically the fastest. The T70 is is the price range and at 0.8", very thin:

Olympus claims their Stylus 790 SW is "shock resistant to withstand a drop of up to five feet (MIL-STD-810F Drop Test Compliant)". It's extremely rare to see any maker talk about shock ratings.
