View Full Version : Glitch?

I thought I was sending the FZ20 in for warranty repairs but it turns out to be (what I think is) a glitch!

Has anyone else experienced this with the FZ20?

Take any pic that is on your SD card and modify it on the computer (brighten the pic or something) and then save the modified image back onto the SD card. If you try to view it on the FZ20, it freezes the camera (at least this is what it does on my fz20). If you try to scroll back or forth, it can't. If you try to turn it off, it goes to the Lumix screen and it stays there with the power still on. You actually have to take the battery out so you can reset it.

The only thing that you can do to fix it is 1) transfer all your files to the computer and then 2) format/erase the card. Then it is fine. I even tried to just erase the single modified pic, but to no avail.

Maybe I should contact Panasonic on this one because I tried the SD card in my brothers sd10 and it read it fine.

Thoughts?

I have just recently read that you can not take a pic from the camera, modify it and put it back on your camera. Any changes to the pic or the EXIF will cause the camera to lock up. This is not a Panasonic specific problem, but across the full spectrum of digital cameras. BTW, if you don't change the picture and write it back to the camera it will be fine.

I just read this info not a week ago. I thought that I had seen it posted by Steves Digicam modarator JimC. I did a search for it, but no cigar. If I find it, I'll get back here pronto. I am only passing along what I read, and have no first hand experience with this problem.

Have a great day

LarryBI don't actually think that modifying an image and then writing it back will necessarily cause "lock up." More likely, the camera either won't recognize it, or won't be able to display it properly. This could vary from camera to camera, maker to maker.
