I have also been looking at the Ixus 30 and 40. In my opinion, I think the Ixus 40 is a better deal. 3 Megapixels these days are not enough. The 40 takes great pictures and the viewscreen is great as well. I haven't used it in direct sunlight but I've heard that its okay. Start up is quick and the duration between each shot is fast. I especially like the movie mode at 640x480 at 30fps. I take lots of video, so this option is very important. Although, I prefer the Olympus AZ-2 (which is impossible to find) because the file compression is better than the Ixus 40.
