Hello all,
Last spring or summer I bought a canon powershot s3 IS for pretty cheap and am happy with the image quality. I was just wondering how much of a difference would moving up to a Nikon d40/d40x or a canon digital rebel xti be? Would I see dramatic image quality/better night shots/more features?
I'm slowly going back to all the posts on all of the forums here trying to re learn everything I have forgotten.
thanks!
oh and also if I do decide to get another camera would anyone know what I should do with my old one? I'm not sure how much it would be worth now and most stores I've been to don't accept trade ins.

The S3 is a great camera (I love mine) but it's not very good in low light. A dSLR with better high ISO performance would potentially make a huge difference.

thanks for the reply. That is one the main reasons I was looking at a dslr (low light photography) I've been doing alot of indoor shoots and just wanted to know how much more of a difference there would be.
So far I'm looking into a Rebel Xti and Nikon d80, but will hold off until I do a good solid months of research. Or if I get a super good deal on one of them =)

All it depends what application do you have.

Yes to all. With DSLR you can change different lenses and flashes; etc. DSLR with its accessories will cost considerably more than PnS, apparently.

You won't get much from trade-in. Ebay for S3 and you will get some idea how much you can get for it.

Difference in image quality? Here are some samples from DCRP's reviews on S3 and XTi.

They're in the reviews on this site. If you read through them you can see exactly what you will get from the various models out there.
