Hello. I have decided to dive into the world of Dslr's recently. I currently have an Canon Elan 7NE which I love, and get a lot of bang out of, but really want to buy a digital body. However I am stuck between getting the Canon 30D, or waiting for the new Canon XSI. Any advice? From what I have seen the rebel series cameras seem to be bit lower build quality, but this new one looks impressive(rubber grip finally!). I actually would like to get my new body soon, so I wouldn't want to wait unless the XSI really is worth the wait.

BTW. In case it wasn't already obvious I am a newbie here. I pulled the classic mistake of posting in the wrong thread.....SORRY!

Choosing an SLR is a very personal thing. Looking at reviews and getting opinions on forums can give you a good overview of a particular camera's functionality but it doesn't replace trying them hands on. I would suggest that you get to a store and get your hands on both cameras if you can.

Definitely wait until the XSi comes out in April and try it hands on, it's more full featured than the 30D- On PAPER it looks like the XSi is a very capable camera, but we won't know until it comes out and starts being used, how effective it is! But the 30D is still a great camera that has been taking amazing pictures for a while now in the hands of very capable people and is much BIGGER than the rebel series. That fact alone is enough to make some buy one camera or the other, so follow Judo's advice and try both out in store before you decide or let any of our opinions influence yours.
