Hello everyone, my name is Joel and I just bought my first SLR camera which is a Nikon D80. Unfortunately I知 new at this and I知 worried that it値l take me forever to take great shots like the ones on this site.
Do you guys have any links or tutorials that can help me get started?
I also bought the magic lantern D80 DVD which helped me understand the basics but I need allot more info. Have you guys heard of kenrockwell.com? Is he any good?
I apologize for asking so many questions but I really want to take advantage of this awesome camera so i can post pictures:cool:
Thanks allot!

You will find many here, myself included think Mr Rockwell is full of shit. I wouldnt take anything he says to heart. You can do much better than listen to that poser.
welcome to the forum. the best way to learn is to just practice imo. look at other peoples shots and pay attention to their settings. switch yourself to Ap from now and start to understand how aperture works to influence your depth of field. a great book you can buy is "understanding exposure" by Bryan Peterson.
so just post some pics and dont be shy to ask for suggestions. :)

Rooz's suggestion for "Understanding Exposure" is excellent. Everybody should have a copy.
If you really want information about your D80 forget the buy here man and go to a real Pro. Buy Thom Hogans D80 ebook (click this link) (http://www.bythom.com/d80guide.htm) you will not regret it.
Yeah I'll second kiwi & rooz too. The exposure is a great place to start & Thom Hogan is what Ken Rockwell wants to be when he grows up.:D Have a look herehttp://www.bythom.com His dvd's on a camera are awesome.;)

Sorry my suggestions weren't good enough for you guys! Some people don't know the first thing about cameras and like free info thats half-way decent . Just thought I could offer up some friendly advice to help out a fellow photographer. Don't worry guys, I wont make that mistake again in the future!

dude, chill, no one is having a go at you, but ken rockwell is a douche bag, there no law that you cant use his suggestions but Joel asked if ken rockwell was any good and like we had told you in an ealier thread you are better served with hogan and the understanding exposure by bryan Peterson, which i will tell you is a MUST have...
relax and enjoy photography mate!

We are not criticising you. Your opinions are as valid as anybody else's and you should not hesitate in voicing them.
The person who you referred to polarises the photographic community and it's a case of love him or hate him. Whenever his name is mentioned the same thing happens.
