Panasonic FZ 3 2x telephoto problem

My FZ3 with a Sakar 2x tetephoto lens will not auto-focus above 12x at a distance greater than about 15 ft. Has anyone had any experience with telephoto lenses for the FZ3? Thanks JLS

Should be the other way around it should not focus until you are about 20 feet away.
