I'm having a problem finding a bag to house all my gear in one place. The Pelican with the foam is looking interesting. I like the hard shell idea, looks less like a camera, and I could pack my camera with lens and hood if I do the foam right. Any Pelican users?

Pelican makes great cases. I have the foam hard case of which you are speaking. It holds my XTi body, 18-135mm lens and small accessories, but there's not much room for another lens.

I also use the smaller Pelican cases for my ultra compact digicam and cell phone when backpacking or boating.

I guess I will have to make a road trip to Calumet Photo for my last 2 purchases - a good tripod, and a good case. I can't seem to get what I want information-wise on the web.

I looked at Pelican cases but they were overkill for my purposes. You would be hard pressed to find a better case if you need such a product though.

You can't beat a Pelican case for protection from the elements and from shock. I have often carried cameras in a Pelican case in my patrol boat in rather rough water conditions and never gotten any kind of damage. For one big enough to carry every bit of equipment you have for a camera is going to be pretty pricy, though.

I have the 1514 which has the valcro inserts and wheels.

I LOVE this thing. After one year and going on my 3rd bag upgrade, I decided this was my solution.

It a good size and pretty much fits all my stuff. I still carry the LowePro SlingShot 200 with my cords and chargers but the shoulder strap goes around the the tow handle so I don't have to carry on my shoulder.

Once I am at the event, I set up my cameras, pull the chargers and cords out of the LowePro and put them in the Pelican. Then I put any additional lenses in the LowePro for access.

I'd love to get a BodaBag for carrying lenses/accessories during a wedding/shoot, just don't feel like spending $200 on another bag right now.

The Pelican is a great case. I would suggest you think strongly about whether you want the foam or dividers though. If you change your gear configuration, sell a lens, add a lens, upgrade your body, add a body...you'll most likely have to buy other foam and it does deteriorate after a while causing foam dust. The dividers allow for adjustment.

Good luck!

I have a 1550 with foam. Fits a Rebel XT with Tamrom 18-200 w hood reversed, a Rebel K2 with 28-90 and hood reversed, a Powershot S5IS with adator and hood, a Photura 35 P&S, Canon 18-55 Kit lens, Canon 75-300 USM II, 220EX, 430EX, BGE3 grip, 12 spare AA batteries with charger, spare NB2LH with charger and some other stuff.

I can throw it off the roof without damage and it floats and is waterproof. What more could you ask??

That must be the one I looked at until I figured it wouldn't be very good to haul on an airplane. ;) Consequently, I settled for a slightly smaller version--the 1620 with pads.

That's because all you have to do is to add an engine, propeller and wings for it to be a plane :p
