Need a little help guys; I'm not sure if my flash is broken or what's going on exactly.
Please bear in mind that I'm no flash expert!
When I turn my 430 EX on its in ETTL with everything blinking. The flash will fire and it will let me change the flash EC, but not the zoom (its stuck at 14mm) and even when I hit "set" everything it is still blinking. I just recharged the batteries last night.
Any ideas?

It could be a contact issue or because the flash is not fully tightened, this was one of the reasons I opted for the 580EXII, I kept forgetting to tighten 430 /580EX

Push your wide angle diffuser panel in more.

Good thought Drama, but I cleaned my contacts and tightened my flash down.

Thanks Don and Nick - you guys are geniuses!!! I have a stofen diffuser on (which I never take off) and I didn't even realize that there was a "wide angle diffuser panel"!!! Problem solved!!!!
I was sure I had killed my flash!
Thanks guys!

okay....not to hijack the thread...but I'm wondering if its a problem or just something normal...
my flash between usage just blows the flash for like 1 sec even though I am not taking a picture....

I just got my 580 EX yesterday did the same thing.... but what was worse for me was I couldn't get the auto zoom to work, read the manual 11 times still wouldn't work... then I pointed the flash forwards :o and it worked! :D Not thinking the whole time that you wouldn't zoom if you weren't pointing the flash in the same direction as the lens... just why won't this work???

Ok, not to hijack the thread but sideways trying to answer your problem: did you touch the DoF preview button on the frontside of the camera? This will cause the flash to strobe for a while so that the photographer is able to check the DoF (in very dark conditions, when not visible without flashlight).

Maybe I did....by mistake...will try it again once I get my camera back....
