View Full Version : Read/Write speed for XTi?

I've been using Scandisk Extreme III CF cards with my XTi. I believe the stated write speed is 20 MB/s for the Extreme III (133x). However, I'm in the market for another CF card (RAW + HQ jpeg eats up a lot of space), and I see these 266x CF cards (40 MB/s write).
I know that digicams have a limit to how fast they can write, much like computer CD/DVD writers, so before I invest in a 266x CF card, does anyone know the read/write speed for the XTi? I can't seem to find the answer through search engines or the manufacturer's website.
TIA

I have 2 cards for my XTi, a Sandisk Ultra II which is 9MB/s write, and a Transcend 120X (not sure of its official write speed).
In the camera, I can't tell the difference between them. Whatever the limits of the XTi are, I believe they are met by any of the CF cards out there now. I would not spend the money on the REALLY high speed ones.
However, if you want to test it out.... then let us know.

Those really high speed cards are UDMA cards. The XTi doesn't need card that fast and it doesn't support the UDMA protocol. There is one possible advantage to those cards, paired with a high speed UDMA card reader might be able to copy the files to your computer a lot faster.

Yes, that is one reason I thought about getting a UDMA card as well. I have a USB 2.0 reader, but emptying all 2 GB from my current CF card takes 4-5 minutes.
So if it at least will benefit in that aspect, it's worth it to me, since Newegg has 266x/UDMA cards for reasonable prices
