Hi
I have a quick question. About 4 months ago I bought a Canon Rebel 6.1 Megapixels. I now have a chance to exchange it for a 10.1 megapixels unit for about $100 in additional cost. Obviously 10.1 is better, HOWEVER, my question is this:
I use the camera with an Ultra Wide Lens almost entirely for a business purpose of shooting apartments. Therefore, for the purpose of posting pictures in various sizes on the web, does it even matter if it is 6.1 or 10.1? Please let me know your opinions, I appreciate the feedback in advance.
Thanks

Megapixels are for cropping and large prints. Nothing more.
If you have no issues framing your subject, then you wont need to do a heavy amount of cropping. If you do not print your photos larger than 20x30, then you wont *need* more megapixels.
For internet/website viewing, most photos are scaled down to 800 pixels wide anyways, and 6 mp images already come more than 5 times that size. So 6 megapixels is just fine. If you are looking to upgrade your camera to gain more features that you will use, then I would definitely look to upgrade. But if it is strictly because you feel more is better, then you may be wasting your money.

I agree totally with VTEC's comments.
In fact, if you're using your pics solely on the web, then 6MP is way more than adequate already. It's a fairly common misconception that more MP equals "better" images; in many cases the exact opposite can apply, particularly with noise issues for example. In fact, to print a decent A4 print on a run-of-the-mill SOHO printer, a lousy 3MP is adequate.
IMHO, the manufacturers alone are largely responsible for the 'megapixel' race — as part of their advertising hype — and it's often the first thing a camera salesman will make a big deal of to your first-time mum 'n' dad buyers.
Cheers :)

I also agree with the notion that manufacturers tend to be the cause of the pixel race. Anything to keep people buying. :D
As the others said, 6mp is more than enough for the web. On the other hand, changing from a rebel to a 10 megapixel camera for $100 seems like a pretty good deal. You won't need the megapixels, but if you are looking for an upgrade anyway, it's better to spend 100 over 1000.
