I'm finding my strap getting in the way more than I thought. I don't want to get rid of it, because it is handy to let the camera hang on my neck at times. I noticed in the fall 2007 Canon EOS catalog (have you seen this yet? WOW! Is that good fun. I got one at my local Ritz. Very cool to see everything from Canon in one place) there is a Pro strap, that has 2 clips to pop it off, leaving 3-4 inches of strap. Seems perfect. But, as usual, I ask the more experienced folks here on their thoughts. Anyone go through this already and decide another kind is better?

I have a Tamrac neck strap that has the quick-releases on it. It also has two little pouches for CF cards, and the neck part is some kind of springy neoprene thats very comfortable and shock absorbing.
I use the quick releases when the camera is going to be on the tripod for awhile. As you suggested, it helps keep them out of the way sometimes.

This situation makes sense, but in general I would think leaving the strap on would be the best idea. It also helps to keep you from dropping the camera.

I'm thinking mostly of nightshots using the tripod. If you are doing a 30s or longer exposure, you don't want the strap around your neck, because you will bump the camera for sure. And if you let the strap hang down, then the wind can blow it around and jiggle the camera.
But generally I agree, the more that strap is around your neck, the less chance of it being dropped.

I use the Op/Tech ProLoop and love it!
I didn't know Canon offered one. :p

I've gone through more straps than I care to admit. I'm pretty fussy about it. The best straps that I have found are upstrap. They are not just better than the others that I have tried. They are better by far. Well worth the money. My favorite is the bandolier quick release.

Hmmmm.....I've never used anything other than what came with the camera. Sometimes my strap does get in way; never considered a quick release strap - it might come in handy at times.
Anyone else use quick-release straps?

Well, I found a nice Lowepro strap for $20 that had quick releases, but even they are bothering me. When un-clipped, it's still 5" of strap/buckle hanging around.
I think a quick release that leaves just a small nubbin' at on the camera is what I want. Has anyone seen such a strap? All the others with quick release follow the same design.
Maybe I'll just build my own and sell them. I'll use aluminum for the mounts, real sturdy. I'll work that in to my schedule...uh, no.
