I keep reading and seeing mentions of Exposure Compensation. I can only find a Flash Exposure Compensation menu item on my XTi. Is this the same thing? It obviously has no visual effect if I don't use a flash as far as I can tell. Is there another?

So, when in Manual, I use a combination of Shutter speed, ISO, F stop to get a proper exposure by using the -2 > 0 > +2 exposure meter thingee on the camera and in the viewfinder. I guess I'm asking if there is another element I can use to balance all this out, Exposure Compensation. I'm only referring to non-flash pics at this point.

Comments?

In manual mode, you're the one setting the exposure compensation, if so desired. In AV or Tv (and maybe others...I don't use other modes much), you can pre-set the exposure compensation closer to -2 or 2. Otherwise it will pick your shutter speed (if in Av), or your aperature (if in Tv) based on the light meter at "0" (as long as you didn't pick a shutter speed or aperature that won't get the camera in that range for your given ISO setting).
