sports mode on the fuji s6000?

Exactly how is this suppose to work and why do you use it? I know that sounds stupid...I would assume I would use it for high speed moving people type photos.
I tried this weekend at a cheer leading comp. No flash on. Speed at 400 put the camera on s and the shots were totally white. I think changed the camera to high speed shooting on sports and same thing...
Did I do something wrong? Any ideas?

HI Spinning! I am so totally confused by my 6000 & it's manual, but I do remember reading that on sports mode, it sets on high speed automatically.

That's why I never let the camera decides for me... It can never understand us human. :cool:
Can you post that pix? I'd like to read the exif data to better guesstimate what happened.
