I am looking for a wide angle conversion lens for my Cybershot DSC H1 and decided to look for the Sony lens #VCL-DH0758. I found one online at a very low price and ordered one. The store said it was on back order and wouldn't be available until the end of Feb. But they did have one in stock by Crystal Optics that cost a "little more" ("only" $70) and "is the best" lens out there. He said the Sony had major distortion and vingetting (sp) problems and the Crystal Optics would be better choice for me. We canceled the order and ran.

Does anyone have this Sony lens and have any problems with it? Is there a decent quality alternate? I don't need top of the line, but I also don't want something cheap. Thanks.

Crystal Optics are near the bottom of the line for lenses, stay away, use the sawn off bottom of a coke bottle, you would get better quality.. :p

Look at the H series Whitepaper from AAK, http://www.aakatz.com/whitepaper/

AAK recommends the Sony and many people use various Raynox add on lenses as well, http://www.raynox.co.jp/english/digital/h1/index.htm

Thanks for the information. We were skeptical when the store had the Sony lens for $20 less than any other place on the web. Their website even claimed they didn't bait and switch. We're not sure what they called the scam they tried to pull on us, but it sure sounded like a bait and switch to us. We'll keep looking for the Sony lens and also look at the Raynox.

The AAK Whitepaper looks like a great source of information on the H1. I'm still learning how to use the camera and it should be a big help. Thanks for the link.
