I realize these threads don't usually take off, but I gotta try. If you have wildlife photos post them here!

I've got a few to share, but since my A710 IS recently departed me, I might shortly have to stop posting.

First up, these three pictures were taken at the same location (+/- 100 yards) within one hour of each other. One was taken with a Canon A610, one with a Canon A710 IS, and one with a Canon Rebel XT with 55-200 mm lens. All three resized to 1024 pixels across for posting, same aspect ratio no cropping. The two point and shoot pictures were taken by myself (unfortunately not the DSLR). Post processing limited to Irfanview, mostly contrast.

Guess which camera took which!

 Very nice! I'll post up some recent shots when I get home.

I like number 2 the best taken with the A710 followed by number 3 taken with the Xt. Number 1 might be the best, but the backlighting took over your exposure. Nice work:)

I apologize, that is a Canon A610, not A510. I'll edit the post to reflect that.

Thanks!

I think I see a pretty easy way to distinguish the DSLR, but how did you guess the A610 vs. A710? My best two guesses are 1) saw the picture in another thread I just posted or 2) looked at the exif info. Of course, the overwhelmingly bright mountain you mentioned would be a third way, because I had recently been taking pictures with my A710 at the lowest contrast setting, then setting it in Irfanview to a more balanced exposure before turning the contrast back up. The good part of that technique was that 100% of my pictures had proper exposure, the bad part was 99% needed post processing for contrast and gamma correction and sometimes brightness.

A couple more:sheep, with A610 again (the batteries in my A710 died so I borrowed that one), and bison seen through a snow coach with A710. No PP done to sheep, buffalo had saturation and contrast turned up.

The same bison as before, but from outside.

Deer would make better pictures if they ran toward me! As you can see from the rock, I had not yet discovered to shoot at the lowest contrast setting, then adjust to the correct exposure later. Extensive cropping for zoom.

Bobcat! Taken at the lowest contrast setting then adjusted, no problems between lights and darks. Also had extensive cropping for zoom.

All pictures with A710.

Come on Canonians! I can't be the only one with wildlife shots.

Ok, I give up. I am running out of my best pictures, I don't have a camera to take more, and no one else seems to have any either. Four last pictures before it gradually sinks like a rock to the old news section.

All pictures with Canon A710

First, an eagle dropping out of a tree. I have more of the same eagle, but this one is best. Max zoom, some cropping for more zoom. Contrast adjustment as usual.

Second, a coyote running across a road. This picture wasn't really much of an accomplishment, given the habits of coyotes... Accidentally taken at ISO400, which is noisier than I'd like. Contrast, cropping.

Third, a deer running over a ridge line to get out of my picture. Taken before I learned about contrast, so camera blew exposure slightly. Cropped for zoom only.

Fourth and final, a bison by a speed limit sign. Nothing done except contrast, and the contrast still looks too low, but that's because it was foggy.

These are some great shots!! I especially like the last one of the bison and the speed sign.

I would post some but honestly I live in the city so the only wildlife I see are little birds on the feeder. We see the occassional deer on the highway but not much other then that:(

My school is in the middle of a forest and nature preserve in Joliet, Illinois. Here's one shot of a deer I already posted in the "S3 pics" thread, and below are two max telephoto and cropped pictures of squirrels I catch from a good distance. Such pics are mostly intended to show my 12x crystal clear optical zoom on my S3.

Thanks ooverdrive. We get a lot of deer that run around campus. I caught that little guy going underneath the campus bridge, which I was standing on. There were actually several of them, but by the time I got my camera out and ready, this was the only one I could get.

Thanks, those are some great pictures. Piedownjoe, that is my method for getting wildlife: I just happen to be at the right place (which sometimes I have to work hard to get to), and raise my camera fast. For instance, the picture of the elk below. I admit it's not the best shot ever, but of a group of six people with cameras I was the only one who got a picture, because I had my camera up first. Then it ran away.

I'll look around, but I really am running out of my best pictures. In all the rest the animals are very small, or it is the same animal as in a picture I have posted already, so you get the feeling "wait, I've seen that guy before." Yup, I wish my A710 had the zoom and quality of an S3.

The A710 is a pretty dang good camera in my opinion.
