So is the s8000 but the differences aren't as major as the s700.

Yes the S1000 is coming. Changes are:

Bigger zoom range at both ends: 12x zoom (33 - 396 mm)
10mp on a 1/2.3" CCD instead of 7mp on a 1/2.5" CCD (more noise?)
Auto panorama stitching
Red eye removal
USB 2.0 High Speed support
2.7” LCD (compared to 2.5”)
Smaller size but weighs a bit more.

I’d say those are good changes and make it appealing for only $250. But it’s still missing IS which may be a big problem unless Picture Stabilization mode is good enough. Are you going to get one?

I would get one if I didn't have my trusty s8000 which has IS and it's mega 18 X zoom. Sensor size as you pointed out is also smaller, there always seems to be a trade off somewhere it seems. I never use USB ports for either camera since my puter already has a built-in memory card reader 2.7" LCD screen vs 2.5? no big deal of a difference. Are you getting one?

The S1000 sensor is a bit bigger with 1/2.3". I'm considering getting the S1000 or Canon SX100. I like their affordable features in a small package. The S1000 has 12x and a VF, but the SX100 has IS and is a bit smaller and lighter.

Also the focal lengths changed:

S700: F3.5 - F3.7
S1000: F2.8 - 5.0

Also the focal lengths changed:

S700: F3.5 - F3.7
S1000: F2.8 - 5.0
The above items are the aperture not the focal length.
S700 aperture: F3.5-3.7 (lens becomes slightly 'slower' as you zoom out)
S700 focal length: f=6.3-63
The above aperture of the s1000 indicates it is a faster lens at the start but loses more 'speed' than the S700 as you zoom out.

Some nice improvements with the S1000 like a wider angle (33mm but not 'true' WA), brighter lens F2.8 at the WA end altho not as bright at telephoto end (F5 vs F3.7) and USB High Speed, but I'd miss the S700's non- extending lens, the (still rare) ablity to zoom while taking a movie and I'm concerned that the jump from 7 to 10 Megapixels on a very slightly larger CCD means more noise.
The rate these new models are coming out is frightening - I'm still getting the hang of using my S5700 in a wide range of shooting conditions! I also recently got a new F20 cheap, for indoor low light snaps and I reckon that'd be hard to beat with the new F100. Speaking of which, it's a pity the F100 is the only new compact model with 28mm. The F480 is the only cheap 28mm lens P&S model and it's small (1/2.5") ccd etc hasn't received glowing reports.

Hi All. Im seriously looking at the S1000. I like my S6000 and S7000, but need something in between. The price is sure right for all the S1000 has. have to do a little more research. There is a lot packed into a small package, im concerned about shake.

The S700 has an extending lens like the S1000. Are you sure the S1000 can't zoom with video? I am thinking it can.

Sorry, to rain on yer parade, but the S700/S5700 lens does NOT extend, just checked it out on mine. All lens movements are internal.
Don't know about the S1000, is it even out yet?

I didn't know that. Now I see it in the S700 review: "The lens does not extend out of the body -- all the moving parts are internal." Does the S1000 lens extend? I thought these two were built much the same.

I took the plunge and ordered this camera (S1000 )today. It was a special order as it will not be in stores till April. They told me it would be 3-6 Weeks.
I was also impressed with the 3 year warranty from Fuji + the extended ,which gives an (ALL) warranty of 5 years.
Richard.

I hope you like it but did you pay for an extended warranty? By the time the 3 yr Fuji warranty runs out the camera will only be worth about $100 so why buy more warranty?

I checked the S1000 Fuji page and zoom with video is not listed as a feature. I guess this one is quite different from the S700.

Yes Your Right. re the warranty. But Hey..It has never failed me in the past and im ahead re cameras etc. No concern about out of date, I always come out ahead when i resell. Im always asked, is their a warranty, when i say yes. I get whatever I ask. The Buyer, who ever, is also ahead.
Anyway for $40 extra Im not complaining.
Only Complaint is the 3-4 week wait. But hey still have my other cameras. I Do love your Photo gallery, great Pictures.
