Hey all. Does anyone have any idea when Fuji plans to release the upgrade to the disaster that IS Fiju f50FD?
Anyone have any information at all?

:mad:Reviews so far have been disappointing and I wish to hear little more about it.
:mad:I wish I could convey how upsetting I find the f50FD fiasco. I had the f10 and recently gave it away in the hope of getting something better... looks like f31FD is the only real option.
very unhappy, so very very unhappy.
Seriously though, the f50FD must have been manufactured for a joke.

IF you are lucky to find a new one... and the chance is getting slimmer each day.

I haven't looked into it to say when the F50 is likely to be replaced, but I know the F40 will be replaced first, since it came out first. My guess is they'll give it sensor stabilization, perhaps a little better than the poorly performing first try they put on the F50... and beyond that, I cringe to think about it. If we're really lucky, they'll also give it a more versatile lens. I mean, 3x zoom starting at 36mm should be HP territory at this point.

Great features. 28 mm wide angle and 5x zoom with FD and ISO almost to infinity.
The bad news is, though never generation SuperCCD, it still have the same size 1/1.6" as F50fd and also 12 MP. So will it be more of the same?

Of course I had to open my trap the very day Fuji announces the replacement! :D Ok, technically, it might not be the F50's replacement, I don't know, but practically it is.
I'm glad to see the much more useful 28mm to 140mm zoom range. That's just what everyone was clamouring for! Not too happy about f3.3 minimum, but what can you do... I just hope it's sharp. I like that they've included ISO 64. The new image processor also has my hopes up. Yes, it's got 12mp crammed into it, but I'm still curious (hopeful?) to see how much they can improve on the letdown that was the F50. Wouldn't it be nice to find out that the image stabilization had also improved?

F100fd sounds an interesting camera because at last, they are offering what the other manufacturers have done for ages.
The sensor is new . VR V3 and not V2 as in the Fuji F50FD... I wonder what this means for image quality. I would guess that iso 12,800 has been thrown in as a joke but nevertheless, it should provide a some amusement.
Interesting how DigitalCameraInfo (http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/content/Top-Performing-Cameras-of-2007-16811.htm)found Sony T100 to be the least noisy compact of 2007  Serves Fuji right! beaten by a sony! ha!
The IS will probably be better given that its 5X optical zoom.

But the T100 review here said: "At ISO 800 we get both an increase in noise, and a drop in color saturation, so I would save this setting for small prints only. ISO 1600 and 3200 are lousy, and should be avoided at all costs."
Who should we believe?

Through shock, I went through their full review and to me, even on their review, I thought the noise on T100 looked worse! See the full review here:
Fuji f50FD (http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/content/Fuji-FinePix-F50fd-Digital-Camera-Review-16019.htm) and the Sony T100 (http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/content/Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-T100-Digital-Camera-Review-13277.htm)
To be honest, I myself would avoid not only the T100 but also the f50FD.

I just read that the F100 doesn't have a/f priority modes. That means that it is the F20 replacement after all... or, more ominously, it is the replacement for both the F20 and the F50, with manual controls being dropped from this series. Which sounds more likely?

I just read that as well. I must say, fuji continue to disappoint. a/f priority would have totally done it for me, but I will still go for it. Wide angle and the 5 X optical zoom is probably, in reality, more important.
There is no doubt they will release another camera soon after with the a/f priority modes.
I am guessing the image quality will be the same as with the f50fd. If better, then its not by much.
F100fd remains far from the the ultimate camera, but they are slowly getting there.

Hmmm........ I'm afraid you are right? Did my eyes deceive me or were the specs changed? I'm not sure now.

The specs were changed. The first time I noticed it was yesterday around 10am. I was most upset! (am I being sad?!)

Not only do Fuji remove features on their upgrades but have also started removing news articles on their cameras.
I was 100% sure they had an article on the F100fd on their UK site when I checked yesterday. Its no longer there now. Interesting...

How do you think the F100FD is going to stack up to some of the other cameras coming out, say the Sony W150 (http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/cameraDetail.php?cam=1163) or W170 (http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/cameraDetail.php?cam=1164)?

Not surprising really. Most of the people I have met who have point and shoot cameras don't like using modes other than 'Auto'.
In my opinion (some will disagree), Fuji didn't do a few things during the transition from the F10 to the F30:
1) They should have started using SD cards with the F30. A LOT of people who had SD cards then were unwilling to switch camera brands, no matter how good the picture quality. SD cards were more expensive in the past.
2) Getting the best out of the F30 meant that you needed to use a mode other than 'Auto'. Fuji's 'Auto' mode didn't do as good a job as its competitors.
3) Fuji's marketing department should have relentlessy targeted clubbers, party animals, etc. and made it the must have sexy camera/accessory. It should have marketed like an iPod rather than the beginning of a prosumer model.
How do you think the F100FD is going to stack up to some of the other cameras coming out, say the Sony W150 or W170?
No point speculating until sample pictures or reviews come out.

Looks like Fuji's engineering department have gone soft in the head...

I'd say the F100 is the F40 replacement. I would expect an F50 replacement later this year.
