So I'm looking to buy my first digital camera and want it to be a bit more substantial than a compact model. I found the Z712 and read the review and liked what I saw (and the price). Then I came across the Z812...however there is no review available yet from DCRP...so I can't make an apples to apples comparision. I'm wondering; Is the Z812 everything the Z712 is but more...I know the specs are better, but how about actual performance? If so I see no problem shelling out an extra 50 bucks for it. I'm pretty new to this, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

i think the only difference between the kodak z712is and 812 is the image senor which is 8megapixel and it shoots HD quality video compared to z712is tv quality video! other than that i think its the same except of course for the case! and the price! since the 812 is new its more expensive, i think its out to compete with the s5 canon!

i can say i am pretty much happy with my z712is only problem is the battery, but i made a mod to this! you can check out my thread! even alot of people are happy with their z612is camera! i guess if you can go for the 812 the go for it! one more think i am not sure if the 812 comes with its own rechargable batts and charger since my z712 doesnt come with one! thats why i envy z612 owners cause everythings included! but the downside to z612 is that they cant use AA's unlike z712 as an optional battery! so i am pretty much happy with my z712!

Z612 have better performance and picture quality than Z712 and Z812. Please try all of these 3 DCs in the shop before you make the decision.

Make sure file compression is set to FINE and you are capturing at the max MegaPixel value to make it a fair comparison. Since the LCD and viewfinder do not provide enough resolution, you will have to view the results on a good monitor.

I have a Z712is and Z1012is. I had a Z812is for a few months when it died on me, controls stopped working. KODAK gave me a free upgrade to the Z1012is when parts were not available for the repairs. The mono audio on th Z712is is better then the stereo audio of the Z812is or the Z1012is. I like the size of the Z812is/1012is better then the Z712is.
Zero or low light on all three is outstanding within the flash range, in fact that and how good the IS works on all three may be the best I seen on any non DSLR digital camera. If it's all about money, the Z712is may be the best camera on the market for that money.
