hi just reccently i bought a kodak z712is i am pretty happy with it, except for the battery issue, just got one question i was thinking of making like a custom battery pack for my camera, which would plug in the side 3v dc in, but my problem was, on the side of the camera it says 3v's i was thinking of making a battery pack out of 3 AA nimah battery like a pack that would plug into the side, only thing is 3 AA's of mah equals 1.2 x 3 3.6volts would this be ok or would this fry my camera? would it be able to handle the extra .6 volts? cause i a fed up with using the 2 AA's it eats it up way to fast! and crv3 are so expensive including klic-8000! so any help would be appreciatted! thanks!

I ended up purchasing the LI-ion recharge Battery (KLIC-8000) from Amazon with the Power 2000 RTC-148 Charger. I also applied for the Amazon VISA and the total charge came to around $17 (a $30 credit on VISA for 1st time purchase). It works great!

heres an update on my project, finally i was able to make my custom battery pack! and for only 2$ i was able to get 500+shots per pack! not bad for 2$ pretty much beats klic-8000 and cr-v3's in the dust! I just made a long extension cable so i can just put the pack in my pocket! i have been uing this pack for 3 days now, and everything is going great! so for you z712is owners! heres a cheap solution to end your battery problems! i was only using 2200mah energizer AA's and i was getting 500+ shots what more if used 2650mah by duracell! :-) i pretty much ave about 70$ klic-8000 cost about 38$ to 42$ at bestbuy! the charger another 40$

heres some pics!

Wow! What type of AA batteries did you use - alkaline, NiMH, Li to get 500+ shots?

Do you keep the battery pack in your pocket and plug the cable into your camera?

What is the velcro strap for (besides restraining excess cord length)?

i tried using energizer 2200mah 2500mah energizer cells and 2650mah duracell cells! yup my battery worries are now gone! the strap is just there to restrain the cord! yup i jut put the pack into my pocket! other than that, i am all set to go! i am planning on maybe making this look a little bit better next time until i find a better battery case! but yup all my battery problems went away! as you know my camera z712is has problems with its high cut off voltage for AA's metal hydride batteries! atleast i dont have to buy klic-8000 batts or cr-v3's

As said on other forums. Digital cameras eat batteries like a fat kid eats cotton candy at the circus. Just to make it easy I bought KODAK rechargeable batteries for my KODAK cameras and I don't have to walk around with a cord sticking out of my pocket. Nor do I have to walk around with a pocket full of AA's. It's such a simple idea that it just makes taking my camera along easy.

I am glad this is working for you, but who wants to lug around a battery pack on an extension cord for a p&S camera? If you actually read the documentation, the only 2 batteries this camera supports are the KLIC-8000 or the Lithium disposable variety. Alkaline or NIMH are not supported. Why would you spend $175+ on a nice camera and then jury-rig some contraption to use it? I would imagine you are risking the longevity of your camera by not providing accurate voltage as well. Kodak SHOULD include the KLIC8000 + charger with this camera because it is required for proper usage. Since they don't, you should just count that as a cost of teh camera.

You can also get 3rd party KLIC-8000 equivalents with charger for around $20 if you are on a budget.

There are people that have put a 11.5 ft pickup truck campers on pontoons and then call it a house boat.

It appears you are using 4 AA cells. At 1.2v (assuming rechargeable NiMHs) you would end up with 4.8v -- are you telling us that 4.8vdc works fine? Or are you only using 3 AA cells?

Finally, where did you source the cable? Do you happen to know what the dimensions of the plug are?

Thanx!
