I recently had to send my Kodak Z612, which is still under warranty, in for repairs and have had nothing but BS from Kodak and Precision Camera . I began researching and found numerous complaints through Consumer Affairs about a Kodak repair scam. I also found that Kodak withdrew their membership with the Better Business Bureau due to complaints about the same thing . I am attempting to get a class action started against Kodak. If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Thanks

I am having problems with my camera and it won't turn on. The knob/wheel on my Kodak DX6490 won't turn, so I can't take pictures or even turn it on. I called the Kodak customer number (1-800-235-6325) and I explained what is the problem and they said that I could send it in to be fixed for $150.00 plus $11.00 shipping or give them the camera and 15% off in their store. That is rediculous! Is this the scam that you were talking about?

First poster) The BBB is a joke. The company I work for does not "participate" in the membership. In 12 years as a CS manager, I've seen exactly 1 BBB letter - and in that one the customer complained about his no-warranty as-is item purchased for $100 (new, about $300) TWO YEARS earlier, had some problem, and wanted a refund.

Second poster) If the product is under warranty you should pay nothing except postage to get it there.

Like Special K said...if the camera is still under warranty, Kodak should repair it for no charge. If the camera is a few years old,you have to decide if its worth fixing or just replace it. The alleged scam the the OP was talking about was happening with cameras under warranty that were sent in for repair. Kodak may know what the fix is with your camera and $150.00 dosen't sound to out of line, IMO.

[SIZE="2"]I began researching and found numerous complaints through Consumer Affairs about a Kodak repair scam.
Is this the site?: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/cameras/kodak.html

So over a four year period there are a handful of complaints about different issues. Kodak sells a lot of cameras so there are bound to be some problems. One of the complaints is about furniture, has nothing to do with a camera. I'm not sure this qualifies as a scam.

I agree totally with bascom's post (above).

The consumer complaint site you're (apparently) referring to is nothing more than a collection of half-baked gripes from a lot of people who seem to be barely literate at best, and technically ignorant at worst. Half of them don't seem to know how to write or to whom to address an email, and the other half simply want something for nothing.

One complainant didn't even know what sort of batteries (rechargeables or alkalines) were in his camera when it self-destructed on a charger!

And please take my advice and forget a class action — it won't get you anywhere and will cost you a lot of time and effort. Even if you have a legitimate complaint, big companies like Kodak can get away with just telling you to take a running jump.

For a $200 camera, it'll be a lot of blood, sweat and tears that you just don't need in this life.

Cheers :)

Wow, I just read many of the complaints. What idiots these people are! One was for a Lazy Boy recliner chair, and at least 2 were for equipment 2 years (or more) old. Another had sand in it...

KODAK C875 Faulty LCD after 2 weeks, and camera sucks up batteries when it is turned off. Extremly hard to use camera, do not attempt to capture anything important with this camera, because you wont. HUGE POS!
Brand new, fully charged, KODAK brand, and recommended batteries go dead after 9 shots with flash. Pathetic, 13 shots without flash the battery notice comes on, fails to auto focus after that.
By All Means, count me in - Kodak has decided to screw the customers with a waranty that is basically a scam, they tell you (while the unit is under waranty) that IF THEY decide the camera was mishandled or if for ANY reason THEY decide that the user is responsible for the damage / faulty operation of the camera, they will charge you for fixing the camera. Ttypical corporate rip-off, of course they are going to charge you for fixing it.
I for one, will NEVER IN A BILLION YEARS purchase another KODAK product whatsoever. I would recommend that no one else does either. Hit them where it hurts, since they don't care about their customer base, then they don't need a customer base.

KODAK customer service has been outstanding the 4 times I've used them in the past 20 years. The latest when my Z812is died, they took it back said parts were not yet avaiable and asked me if I wanted a Z1012is in it's place. I said sure and I now have a Z1012is at no extra cost.

Precision Camera don't they do warranty work for all the major brands?
