ive been looking for a dc that can record video at a minimum of 640 x 480 at 30 frames/second. so far the S1 is the best that i have found.... im willing to pay the extra money for a 1gb card. Does anyone else have any other cameras that compare or maybe have a better resolution in movie mode?
I checked out the sony T1 but the video quality isnt near the s1 even though the specs are the same for the vga quality. thanks for the help!

Jeff reviewed a Minolta, a while ago, that had an 800 x 600 movie mode. Again, 30fps, with sound.

thanks for the tip - i checked it out in the review. the 800x600 is 15fps which is a little to slow...although, it does jump down in resolution at 640x480 which increases the frame rate to 30fps, the camera still doesnt match up to the canon s1 overall.

The S1 IS allows you to zoom and changes apeture and other settings DURING a video, whickI don't think ANY other camera does. And I've looked. The S1 is the best for videos.

I just bought a Minolta Z3; haven't used Movie mode much, but I do know it has 640x480 @30 fps, and you can use the 12x optical zoom during movie recording. However, I can't recommend this cam for quality still pics. Based on other reviews, Canon S1 IS definately takes better stills and probably better video too.
What little I have used the Z3's video though, I like it very well.

Also, the sound of the S1 is in 16bit compared to 8bit for other cameras... Of course, it can't compare to a mini DV tho, so if your main purpose is for videos, for a mini DV.
