how do you reset the Nikon Coolpix 8700 back to the original factory settings? I am trying to figure out why the screen is blurry and doesn't focus in the holding the button down part way. any suggestions? thanks for your help.

I have an 8800 so I think it should be pretty similar.
On the mode dial, select "Setup."
Using the selector dial, press the down arrow and keep on scrolling until you get to "Reset all."
That should do it.
As far as why the screen is blurry...sounds like an autofocusing problem. If you have it set for Closeup (flower icon) and you're trying to focus far, the lens may not be able to focus properly. Or vice versa, if you have it set for Landscape (mountain icon) and want to focus close, that might also be a problem.
You can try focusing manually to see if the screen clears up. To do this, hold in the AF button on the left side of the camera body. In the LCD, you should see the Flower on the left and the Mountain on the right. Rotate the dial under the mode selector until the object comes into focus. If you can't get a clear view by this means, you may have to bring it in for repair.
