View Full Version : Help about SDHC for S3 IS

I'm seeing some forums and reviews that says S3 IS can recognize SDHC even though Canon themselves doesn't even know about it.

Now I'm planning on purchasing one for my camera but my concern is if there's an specific type or class and capacity that S3 (does/does not) recognize.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks,
Roy

I don’t have an S3, but from reading about this very issue for months and months in these forums the answer seems to be that:
1. Canon has officially said that the S3 supports SDHC.
2. If the card says SDHC then it’s supported.
3. There’s ample evidence on the Internet that it works just fine.

Good Luck!

It's not that they don't know about it, it's that they didn't ever advertise it, because when the S3 was first manufactured SDHC hadn't even hit retailers yet. But SDHC cards do work just fine in it. I had one, and now my dad has it and still uses the SDHC cards I gave him in it.

Thanks for the responses.

So it means that it doesn't matter if it's class 2, class 4 or class 6, as long as it's an SDHC it will work fine.

So in regards with the capacity; does it matter? Can I go up to whatever capacity, let's say 16GB?

Class just refers to the speed of the card, so it doesn't matter. The camera can only write as fast as the Class 4 cards so Class 6 is a waste of money. Size shouldn't matter, people are using up to 8G now. Do 16G exist yet?

You're a little behind on your news:

They're up to 32GB now, but they're extremely difficult to find as of right now.

I use Kingston 4 GB class 6 SDHC (among other normal SDs) in mine with no problem.

That was the price for two 2G cards when I bought them last year. :)

Yeah, I came across a price tag at work the other day from summer of '06, and it was $99 and change for a 1 gig sony memory stick. I found it really funny.

I've been using a 4GB SDHC for 6 months with no issues.
