What does these numbers mean?

18-55mm-

55-200mm-

70-200mm-

The numbers (18-55mm) are the focal length of that particular lens.

One thing that you should know is that the D40's auto focus only works with Afs lenses. This means that if get a lens for your D40 that is not Afs, you will have to use manual focus.
